The Wayfarer Presents : October Residency

De Palma

Mon, October 29, 2018

8:00 pm

This event is 21 and over

After Davis heard Chuck Berry at the age of 12, he was compelled to pick up his first guitar – a Gibson 335. From California's Inland Empire, music shaped his childhood. Davis immersed himself in the iconic songwriting of such artists as Nirvana, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon, as well as the euphoric melodies of The Strokes and The Libertines. This fusion of musical interests gives Davis a unique sound all his own. His guitar tones are both unique and technical, while his vocal range gives him the freedom to hit Little Richard notes in an effortlessly cool manner. His sound has been compared to everything from Bob Dylan to Arcade Fire; Kings of Leon to Beastie Boys; John Lennon to James Brown.
Davis performs with a full backing band. He delivers Rock & Roll in a way that is both fresh and nostalgic. Currently working on his debut album, Davis hopes to push the Rock & Roll genre forward into new territories, writing honest and modern songs about timeless emotions. Davis has been recording all throughout the U.S., everywhere from an RV trailer park in Utah to the legendary Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville. Davis' writing taps into the history of American youth culture, just as his influences did with their songs. With a nod to the past, Davis looks forward.
De Palma
De Palma
De Palma is a time traveling act that merges their contemporary rock/pop and post-grunge upbringing with the inventiveness of frontman Magdiel Montano, whose creative outlet pours dark-wave synths and ambient guitars into an energetic interpretation of his own sound. Although born in Mexico, Magdiel was mostly raised in New York before moving to California at age 16. His family recalls him showing interest in singing, dancing and even writing music since he was a child. Growing up he learned how to write his own songs using the family guitar and piano; often inspired by artists such as The Cure, Depeche Mode and Radiohead. Once in California, a local musical crowd had noticed him for his abilities on the drums, which he had more recently learned. This led him to joining the band “York” in 2010. With them he toured along the west coast of the country, and returned with expanded ideas about music and his life. Now In “De Palma”, where Magdiel is the primary songwriter, we see a true experimentation of styles he has encountered throughout his journey, and products like his newest single “Synthetic Love”, which display a fun yet raw transformation of 80’s nostalgia. There to help captivate the songs are guitarist Danny Rangel and bass player Josh Smith. Together these artists attempt to convey music for all to enjoy.
